An After-Wedding Session ~ Winter Wedding In August | Silver Falls, Oregon

Samantha & Skylar Simpson

January 1st, 2022

Was the title of the post super confusing?! Lol!

I know, so here’s the explanation: This sweet couple got married back on New Years Day 2022, but didn’t have very many good photos of them & their kids. They didn’t get those intimate styled poses or the candid moments of the kids. There were so many moments that weren’t documented & it devastated this bride! (Not from me lol! I went to the wedding but was not the photographer!)

Devastated so much that I woke up one morning to a bunch of texts of her crying her eyes out because she was so disappointed about all of those missed moments & you can’t redo a wedding…or can you?

Well maybe not the whole wedding, but you can do an After-Wedding Session!

I think there may be a growing trend of brides & grooms getting dressed up to have their wedding photos taken at a different location at a different time before or after the wedding. I think it’s a great idea because wedding photos can be stresssssful!

Just like a first look, these scheduled wedding photos can be way more intimate, relaxed, & fun just because there aren’t hoards of people waiting around to get their photos taken with you or just to chat with the wedding party.

You can end up getting cute moments like this one where it’s just mom & daughter without anyone else around or standing in the background or trying to get their attention.

So sweet, am I right?!

Wowzers..

Holy baby Jesus! Amen! Oh, you know He brought these two together!

& I don’t know about you, but I can feeeel this photo.

Whew, anyway..

Scheduling a Before-Wedding session is good so that you can have those images printed & displayed AT the wedding for everyone to see,

but sometimes (like in this instance), the photos from your wedding don’t turn out as you expected, or you’re super caught up in the moment of being present at the wedding that there weren’t as many photos taken that you wanted. Whatever the reason, you can have a shoot done AFTER!

So, that is exactly what we did!

After seeing that Sam was clearly devastated, obviously I had to do something to try to help fix it, I can’t just let her sit there & be miserable & disappointed in her wedding photos for the rest of her life! You want to look back on those photos & ‘ooh’ & ‘ahh’ all over them & share them with people!

Aren’t they adorable?!

Seriously. I like to tell her that they are my favorite ginger family. I really don’t know another family with so much red hair, but I love it lol!

Planning this session was easy. Executing it was a smidge tough, because we had to rescheule it three times! We talked about different dates, locations, & something would happen that we would have to plan on a different day, but that is OK! I know how life is. We all have kids & families, those take priority! Plus, there wasn’t really a timeline for getting this session done because the wedding was already done months ago!

Once we finally settled on a date, we decided Silver Falls, Oregon would be the best because it is GORGEOUS! I mean, just look at all the green around them! & not to mention, there are waterfallllls!

So classy.

Even though I take all images in color, I often turn a bunch of them to black & white because I absolutely love the classic, timeless feel of them. Skylar looked great in the blue suit & Sam’s dress was so simple & chic, turning them to black & white was a must!

I think photos like this make the wait worth it & I hope this session & these photos made up for the moments not documented!

Ok, can we all give a huge CONGRATS to Sam & Skylar for their patience & their new life together as the bride & groom of the ginger family! lol! But seriously, congrats you guys, I love youuuuuuuu & I wish you all the best in your life together!

I’m just going to throw this out there- if you’re on the fence about hiring a professional photographer to shoot your wedding, & the cost of that, just do it. Research your heart out to find someone who fits your needs. Even if that means shopping around, getting quotes, meeting with photographers at coffee shops to chat & look at their portfolios. Nowadays you can probably just look online, but seriously, as a photographer I’m obviously going to say that. But also as a bride (many, many years ago) who is still disappointed in her wedding photos - Hire a professional. Do the research. Talk to them. Look through their photos. Put down that deposit. A quality photographer MUST be part of your budget. It’s right up there with the venue & the wedding dress. Your wedding is only a few hours & those moments come and go so quickly that you cannot possibly remember everything. I promise you, you will cherish your wedding photos for years.

If you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, I have an Estimates page with all of my competitive prices for weddings & more!

& if you want to see more photos from weddings I’ve done, you can go to the Portfolio page & check them out!

Or if you need more info & would like to chat with me before you get a quote, click the Contact Form button below to fill out the contact form & I will get back to you within 24 hours! OR just send me a text really quick if that’s easier!
