A Time to Slow Down

Hey there! I just wanted to write a little something because I haven’t in a minute. I can’t believe the holidays are here, it’s almost 2021, & that means my youngest baby will be 3 just a week after the New Year. That pulls at my heart a tiny bit ‘cause she’s not a baby anymore! BUT I do know that in a few months I will have a couple fresh, squishy babies to hold & snuggle & smell & take alllll the photos of! I have literally text my best friend that I need a baby to hold soon, her reply is that I’m going to have to wait. *insert eye roll here* Ugh! Jk Jk-kind of.. But seriously, June cannot come quick enough! Btw, I always take a selfie with da baby :)

Anywhooo…

a lot of people seem to ask how business is these days, if I’m doing well, if I’m keeping busy, & I’m gonna be honest guys

-winter is a slow time-

BUT I keep it that way for a few reasons:

  • I have a family -quite a big one at that- they come first & I want to spend as much time with them as I possibly can -while they are still little- making memories & just being present with them -in the here & now. *See photos below :)

  • I am always -& I mean ALWAYS- freezing! I have to plan going out so I can dress in layers upon layers. I want you & your fam to be comfortable & if everyone is freezing, everyone will LOOK freezing (obviously specialty snowy sessions are an exception -which we can definitely plan- lol!).

  • I am still in school -during the rest of the year, even in summer, I have classes, homework, & so. much. reading., so when I get a break (winter/spring), I take that much needed time & basically do nothing. Ok, not nothing, but take a minute to breathe, ya know?

-I am intentional about my time-

  • I have to have balance or I will go crazy. I love my work (I don’t even like calling it that because if you love it, it’s not work right?) I make it a point to not overbook myself & get burned out. I don’t want to do that to myself, my family, or YOU. I want you to have the best version of me when we are out during your session. Raise your hand if you can pour from an empty cup..’cause I sure can’t!

  • I know that the holidays are stressful & hard financially for a lot of people. I have been there -not so long ago- so I know that family photos are like the last thing on your mind for the end of the year! But-

-when you’re ready, I’m ready!

  • I love Oregon, I could go on & on about all the things I love about it, but let me tell you, the weather in winter is not so awesome sometimes & that makes it even harder to plan a session. Not saying it’s impossible, but if you’re going to melt in the rain, we might have to plan something indoors!

  • Lastly- COVID. Oooh the great coronavirus. Normally when kids are in school it’s the cold season, where sharing is caring & they bring those nasty little germs home & spread it around. But right now it’s COVID season, so I guess it’s basically the same thing -except worse? As temperatures drop & sickness is spread, I want us all to be safe -YOU, me, your family, my family, the dog, etc.

Moments like these are what I don’t want to miss!

I constantly wrestle with wanting to be busy & wanting to be at home. I tell my husband all the time that I’m basically a walking contradiction. These days & years are precious, & I don’t want to look back & realize that I missed a lot. Kids don’t keep! & I know my family has made me a better person, they are the best things I’ve ever done, so I don’t want to escape them!

So let’s all just take a deep breath & enjoy the holidays!
